Nausea

Possible Symptoms:

  • nausea (upset stomach)
  • vomiting ("throwing up")

And some or all of the following:

  • diarrhea
  • fever
  • headache
  • dehydration

The most common cause of nausea and vomiting (throwing up) is a viral infection usually called the stomach flu. Most people recover from this illness within 1 or 2 days. Short-lived nausea and vomiting may also occur after eating a bacterial toxin in food; this is commonly called food poisoning. No specific treatment exists for viral infections or food poisoning of this type. Following our Home Suggestions will help you relieve the discomfort of this illness. Sometimes nausea and/or vomiting may be caused by medication. If you have started a new prescription medication, see your nurse/doctor. Women should check to see if they are pregnant.

Please answer the following questions if you think your nausea may require medical care.
