Pink Eye - Crusty Discharge- Home Suggestions
1. Non-prescription decongestant eye drops, such as Visine or Vasocon, can help soothe the eye. Those with severe heart disease or poorly controlled blood pressure should avoid decongestant medications. See page 74 for more details about decongestant medications. Ask your pharmacist for help in choosing these medications.
2. Clean the eye with a warm cloth as necessary.
3. Avoid smoke and other things which bother your eyes.
4. If there is severe itching, there may be an allergy causing the problem. Antihistamine pills or antihistamine containing eye drops may help. See page 75 for more details about antihistamines. Ask your pharmacist for help in selecting these medicines.
5. Avoid wearing contact lenses until your eye has been normal for 2-3 days.
After attempting these treatments, begin this tool again every 6-8 hours. If you have not improved in 48-72 hours, go to the nearest health centre / hospital.
